Have you noticed?
•Your attention is wandering off.
•You’re just not as focused as you used to be.
•You’re feeling tired (but is it really tired or something else?)
So, what’s the problem? Well, to start, what you call attention to increases (or expands). If you're not aware of what you're attending to, this could be problematic. Here are some tips:
- Notice where your attention is. As you practice throughout the day this noticing, it will become a habit over time. (Practice makes progress!)
- After noticing comes inquiring and shifting.
- Ask yourself, “Is this where my attention needs to be right now?”
- If what you’re doing isn’t what you intend to be doing, stop doing it and return to what’s important to you
- This brings you back to conscious decision-making
- Repeat!
- Building the habit of noticing, questioning and shifting strengthens your choice-making muscles.
- Over time, you’ll begin to see how much of your attention you’re wasting away.
- You will be able to more quickly return from the rabbit holes of distraction and keep focused on what’s important to you.
Try it, then let me know how it's going for you -I'd love to hear from you! tlcheney2@gmail.com
